DHL Supply Chain said Wednesday that it will invest half a million euros ($498.3 million) over the next five years in India to expand its warehousing capacity and workforce in the country.

The courier service, which is part of Deutsche Post AG, said the money will serve to double its workforce in India to around 25,000 people and increase its warehousing capacity to 22 million square feet by 2026.

The company is aiming to cater to growing sectors of the Indian economy which include the e-commerce, engineering and manufacturing and automotive industries, DHL said.

"Despite the current, economic and geopolitical uncertainties in the world, we see enormous growth potential in the Asia Pacific region, with India making a significant contribution," said DHL Supply Chain Chief Executive Oscar de Bok.
