Daimler AG is reshaping its board in the wake of the spinoff of its commercial-vehicles unit, synchronizing with its subsidiary Mercedes-Benz AG.

The German auto maker said Wednesday that Mercedes-Benz board member Joerg Burzer will join its own management board on Dec. 1. Mr. Burzer has "played a decisive role in transforming the global production network of Mercedes-Benz into a highly efficient, digital, flexible and sustainable operation, capable of scaling up to meet the rapidly increasing demand for electric vehicles," said Bernd Pischetsrieder, chairman of Daimler's supervisory board.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Chief Operating Officer and Daimler board member Markus Schaefer will meanwhile become Daimler's chief technology officer and a member of the management board of Mercedes-Benz, responsible for development and procurement.

Daimler board member Hubertus Troska will also join the Mercedes-Benz board, the company said.

The synchronization between the two boards should allow leaner decision-making following the spinoff, Daimler said.

As part of the truck-and-bus spinoff operation, which went ahead earlier this year, Daimler is set to change its name to Mercedes-Benz AG as of February next year, in order to emphasize its focus on its cars and vans business.
