Vivendi SA said Tuesday that it has bought a 10.6% stake in French media company Lagardere SCA.

The French media group said the stake purchase was a long-term financial investment and reflected "Vivendi's confidence in the future prospects of the French group."

It didn't comment on the financial terms of the deal.
