LONDON--The U.K. utility regulator OFGEM on Wednesday said SSE
PLC (SSE.LN) has agreed to pay 100,000 pounds ($147,500) to an
anti-fuel poverty campaigning group after its actions led to it
receiving excessive payments from the electricity grid operator for
agreeing to reduce its output.
OFGEM said that in January 2014 SSE reduced output at six of its
Scottish hydro-electric power stations in exchange for "constraint
payments" from National Grid PLC (NG.LN), used to prevent
oversupply on its electricity network, for longer than
necessary.
"This led to National Grid paying more than it should have done
to reduce generation from the stations," OFGEM said.
The GBP100,000 will go to Energy Action Scotland, OFGEM said,
adding that SSE admitted its failure and took action to make amends
for the small-scale breach.
