Merck KGaA Appoints Belen Garijo as Deputy CEO; Life-Sciences Head Leaves

Merck KGaA said Monday that it has appointed Belen Garijo as
deputy chief executive and vice chairman of the executive board
effective immediately.
Ms. Garijo joined Merck in 2011 as chief operating officer of
the biopharma business and was named to the board in 2015, the
German pharmaceuticals and life sciences company said. She is
currently CEO of the healthcare business and heads the corporate
functions human resources and environment, health, safety,
security, quality.
The company also said Udit Batra, chief executive of the life
sciences branch, is leaving the company to pursue other
opportunities.
Christos Ross will be in charge of the life science business
sector on an interim basis. Merck Chief Financial Officer Marcus
Kuhnert will take over additional executive board responsibility
for Information Technology, the company said.
