Industry Legal and Regulatory Expert Demitri Downing Joins Medican team as CEO of Medican Nations

Medican Enterprises Inc. (OTCBB:MDCN) today announced the formation of a new wholly owned subsidiary called Medican Nations, LLC (Medican Nations) and the appointment of Demitri Downing as Chief Executive Officer of Medican Nations.

Medican Nations will be focused on building strategic partnerships with Indian communities in the United States and Canada to create and build business solutions within the indoor gardening and marijuana industries.

With respect to the marijuana industry, recently, the U.S. Justice Department instructed U.S. attorneys to allow Indian communities to grow or sell marijuana on their sovereign lands, even in states that ban the practice. The new policy, released in the Wilkinson memorandum, will allow tribes interested in growing and selling marijuana to do so. The memo outlines the eight enforcement triggers that currently govern state marijuana sales, and further provides that U.S. attorneys will review tribal marijuana policies on a case-by-case basis and retain the right to enforce current federal law prohibiting the growing and sale of marijuana-related products.

Demitri Downing is a former prosecutor for the Tohono O’odham Nation, which is located in Arizona. He has spent more than fifteen years working in law and government relations for reservations and numerous other jurisdictions. Prior to joining Medican, he had a successful career as strategic analyst in the development of the legalized marijuana industry. He also serves as a regulatory, compliance and legal consultant to numerous dispensaries in the legalized marijuana industry in Arizona. Recognized industry wide for his expertise, he was recently selected as a strategic analyst in the development and regulatory governance for the Arizona 2016 recreational initiative. He is an important figure in the industry, has an extensive background in marijuana law, and has strong working relationship with tribal governments, as well as industry expertise. Mr. Downing graduated from Boston University and the University of Arizona James E Rogers College of Law.
