Daimler AG (DAI.XE) said Wednesday that it has appointed top managers at its Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Truck businesses, in the run-up to the auto maker's corporate restructuring in November.

Under the new structure, the units are legally independent, with Mercedes-Benz responsible for cars and vans, while Daimler Truck will have responsibility for trucks and buses, the company said Wednesday.

Manfred Bischoff was appointed as supervisory board chairman of Mercedes-Benz, with Ola Kallenius to lead the business.

Mr. Kallenius will be supervisory board chairman of the truck unit, which will be led by Martin Daum. Mr. Kallenius is the chief executive of Daimler AG, having replaced Dieter Zetsche earlier this year.

As previously reported, Daimler is restructuring to create three separate entities--Mercedes-Benz, Daimler Truck and Daimler Mobility--under one umbrella. The company expects the change to give the units more entrepreneurial freedom.
