Airbus SE said Friday that it has signed a contract to host the German Aerospace Center's Compasso mission on its Bartolomeo platform at the International Space Station.

The European plane maker said the 16.8 million-euro ($20.3 million) contract is for Compasso to occupy a slot on Bartolomeo for 18 months from the end of 2024.

Compasso's role at the space station will be to verify laser-optical clocks, which Airbus said could be used in future generations of satellite navigation systems. Bartolomeo can host up to 12 external payloads at the space station, and was first sent there in 2020.
