Airbus SE said Tuesday that its subsidiary Airbus Defence and Space Airborne Solutions and its partner Israel Aerospace Industries have won a contract for maritime aerial surveillance services in Europe.

Under the contract that was awarded by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, the European plane maker and its partner will operate a remotely piloted aircraft system at medium altitude, Airbus said.

"The service will be delivered in Greece, and/or Italy and/or Malta within a framework contract," it said, adding that "the system is capable of flying more than 24 hours in full operational configuration and creates a comprehensive, real time, naval picture in geographical areas for potential surveillance interests."

The company didn't disclose the financial details of the contract.
