Target Corp. (TGT) on Wednesday said Janna Potts has retired as executive vice president and chief stores officer.

The Minneapolis retailer said Mark Schindele, a 20-year company veteran who had been senior vice president of properties, succeeds Ms. Potts as chief stores officer, responsible for leading the operations of its nearly 1,900 stores.

Ms. Potts, who joined Target in 1989 and had been chief stores officer since January 2016, will remain in an advisory role until May 1, the company said.

Target also named Christina Hennington and Jill Sando chief merchandising officers, removing the interim tags they have carried since Mark Tritton left late last year to become chief executive of Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (BBBY).

The company said Ms. Hennington will serve as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer for hardlines, essentials and capabilities, while Ms. Sando was named executive vice president and chief merchandising officer for style and owned brands.
