Sasol Ltd. said Monday that the low-density polyethylene unit at its Lake Charles chemicals project in Louisiana achieved beneficial operation Sunday.

The unit was the last of seven to be brought into operation, the South Africa-based petrochemical and energy company said. The unit was damaged in a fire during commissioning in January, it said.

The Lake Charles project is now fully complete, with total capital expenditure forecast within the previous guidance of $12.8 billion, Sasol said.

Production from the low-density polyethylene unit is an important milestone for a planned expansion into the U.S. polymers-production market by a joint venture between Sasol and LyondellBasell Industries NV, Sasol said.

The company said that all units that were operating prior to the impact from Hurricane Laura have returned to operation, and that there is no further impact from Hurricane Zeta.
