--Shares of Pinterest Inc. rose about 12% to $62.23 after Bloomberg reported that PayPal Holdings Inc. is exploring a purchase of the social-media company.

--PayPal recently approached Pinterest for the potential transaction, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing unnamed sources.

--PayPal shares fell about 3.6% to $261.85.
