Philip Morris International Inc. said Wednesday that it has
appointed two former U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials to
work on the company's scientific transformation and smoke-free
products.
The cigarette maker said it has named Badrul Chowdhury as the
chief life sciences officer for its smoke-free products, and
Matthew Holman as the vice president of its U.S. scientific
engagement and regulatory strategy.
Mr. Chowdhury, who oversaw the FDA's center for drug evaluation
and research's pulmonary division for more than 20 years, will join
the company's senior management team in January 2023, it said.
Mr. Holman, who most recently worked as the FDA's director of
science officer at the center for tobacco products, also spent 20
years at the federal agency, the company said.
"As we transform, we recognize the importance of bringing
together diverse perspectives, including those of regulatory bodies
and the scientific community," Deepak Mishra, president of PMI
Americas, said.
