Nokia Corp. said Wednesday it is cancelling its participation at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The global technology company said it has been monitoring the situation following the coronavirus viris outbreak, and made the move with the health and safety of its employees in mind.

Nokia said rather than meeting customers and stakeholders in Barcelona, it plans to go directly to customers with a series of "Nokia Live" events aimed at showcasing the demos and launches scheduled for MWC.

With the cancellation, Nokia joins a growing list of companies not travelling to the MWC, including Ericsson, iconectiv and Royole.
