Nike Inc. temporarily closed its global headquarters in Oregon over the weekend for a deep cleaning out of concern following a case of the new coronavirus in the state.

All buildings and facilities, including fitness centers, at its headquarters were closed after the sporting-goods giant said it became aware of the presumptive case of Covid-19 in Lake Oswego, Ore. It added it had no information indicating any exposure to Nike employees, but took the step out of an "abundance of caution."

On Monday, Nike also confirmed it had shut down its European headquarters at its campus in Hilversum, the Netherlands, for several days after an employee was infected with the coronavirus. There have been 10 cases of coronavirus detected in the Netherlands so far, Dutch authorities reported.

In the U.S., new cases of the coronavirus were reported over the weekend, including the second death from the virus in the country, prompting federal officials to ramp up efforts to test and fight the health threat. Oregon, California and Illinois were among those states to disclose new cases early in the weekend, and new cases were also reported in reported in New York, Florida and Rhode Island.

Based in Beaverton, Ore., Nike's business includes the Nike, Converse and Jordan brands.
