Dow Inc. said Tuesday it would name Chief Executive Jim Fitterling to the additional post of chairman following the company's annual shareholder meeting on April 9.

The Midland, Mich., materials science company said Mr. Fitterling would succeed Jeff Fettig, who serves as non-executive chairman.

Dow said its board would select an independent lead director following the annual meeting.

Dow also said it has nominated Jill Wyant, executive vice president and president of global regions at Ecolab Inc., for election to the board.

The company said board member Ruth Shaw would retire at the annual meeting.
