Dominion Energy Inc. on Thursday said its proposed Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project achieved a regulatory milestone.

The company said the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management will publish a Notice of Intent in the Federal Register on Friday for the project. "The issuance of a NOI begins BOEM's and other federal agencies' review of the project and the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement," the company added.

Dominion said preparing the Environmental Impact Statement will take about two years.

According to the company, the planned 2.6-gigawatt coastal project is the largest planned offshore wind farm in the U.S.

Dominion said construction on the project is slated to begin in 2024 and expected to conclude in late 2026.
