BP PLC said Thursday that it has signed agreements with four potential customers for its clean hydrogen production facility in Teesside, England.

The oil-and-gas company, which in March announced the H2Teesside hydrogen project, said it has signed memorandums of understanding with CF Fertilisers, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Sembcorp Energy UK and Alfanar Company.

BP said CF Fertilisers, Mitsubishi and Sembcorp are seeking to switch the fuel they use at its operations in Teesside to clean hydrogen from natural gas. In addition, the agreement with Alfanar is to scope the supply of clean hydrogen to the waste-to-sustainable aviation fuel plant Alfanar is developing in Teesside.

BP's H2Teesside aims to produce up to 1 gigawatt of blue hydrogen by 2030, 20% of the U.K.'s hydrogen target. Blue hydrogen is produced using natural gas.
