--U.S. Representative David Cicilline (D-RI) said he and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) received a letter from the White House counsel saying the administration wouldn't hand over documents the two request pertaining to what role, if any, President Donald Trump played in a review of AT&T Inc.'s (T) acquisition of Time Warner, Inc., Reuters reported Tuesday.

--The two lawmakers made the request last month, following a media report that alleged the president asked a White House official to get the Justice Department to intervene and try to block the deal, the report said.

--In the letter, White House counsel Pat Cipollone said he wouldn't give "protected communications between the president and his senior advisers that are the very core of the executive branch's confidentiality interests," the report said.
