Netflix Inc. (NFLX) and Viacom Inc.'s (VIA) Nickelodeon said Wednesday that they entered a multi-year deal to produce original animated films and television series.

The deal will see the companies produce material based on the Nickelodeon library of characters as well as new properties, they said.

Upcoming offerings include the kids animated series "Dino Girl Gauko" from Japan, which begins streaming November 22, and "Fast & Furious Spy Racers" from DreamWorks, which begins streaming December 26, the companies said.

Viacom's merger with CBS Corp. (CBS) is expected to close early next month.
