Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) on Thursday said it acquired San Diego-based Express Logic, maker of real-time operating systems for the "internet of things."

Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Microsoft said Express Logic's ThreadX real-time operating system was among the most deployed in the world, with over 6.2 billion deployments. ThreadX is also complementary to Microsoft's own Azure Sphere, the company said.

In April of last year, Microsoft said they intend to invest $5 billion in internet of things and the intelligent edge over the next four years.
