--Apple Inc. and Intel Corp. are the first to use Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s next-generation semiconductor production technology ahead of its deployment as early as 2022, Nikkei Asia reported Friday, citing unnamed sources.

--The U.S. companies are testing their chip designs with TSMC's 3-nanometer production technology, with commercial production of such semiconductors expected to start in the latter half of 2022, the Nikkei Asia report said.
