Richard Plepler, the one-time chairman and chief executive of HBO, has signed a deal to produce shows for Apple TV+, the streaming service that Apple Inc. (AAPL) has launched, according to news reports.

Mr. Plepler had been in talks create content for Apple TV+, The Wall Street Journal reported in November.

Mr. Plepler, known for overseeing HBO when it developed hits like "Game of Thrones," signed a five-year deal with Apple TV+, according to Variety.
