KGaA dropped 3%. The FTSE 100 added 0.2%. Other stocks in Europe were up as France's CAC 40 increased 0.6% and Germany's DAX climbed 0.4%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index was flat at 100.11.

In commodities, Brent crude gained 0.4% to $92.55 a barrel, and WTI crude gained 0.5% to $91.25 a barrel.

The German 10-year Bund yield climbed by 1 basis point to 2.856% from 2.845%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose by 3 basis points to 4.612% from 4.579%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Japan's Nikkei 225 index fell 0.3%, and markets in Hong Kong were closed. Markets in China were closed.
