FTSE 100 Falls as Finance, Property, Retail Stocks Drop

0906 GMT - The FTSE 100 Index falls 0.7%, or 57 points to 7845, with losses for financial, property and retail stocks outpacing gains for defensives such as tobacco shares. Asia markets mostly ended lower after upbeat U.S. job figures Friday dampened hopes that the U.S. Federal Reserve would ease interest-rate increases. "A strong U.S. job report Friday has indicated that the Fed may have more work to do on interest rates, pressurizing global equity markets," Interactive Investor's Victoria Scholar writes. Prudential, Hargreaves Lansdown and Legal & General are among the financial sector's biggest top-flight fallers while property stocks Segro, Land Securities and British Land also lose ground. In retail, B&M European Value Retail, Kingfisher, JD Sports Fashion and Next head lower. (philip.waller@wsj.com)
