Orange said Tuesday that its venture-capital fund Orange Ventures, along with other telecommunication companies and investors, has invested in cloud-native service provider Weaveworks Inc.

The French telecommunication company said Weaveworks received $36.65 million as part of a funding round from Orange Ventures, Deutsche Telekom AG, Ericsson AB, Amazon.com Inc.'s subsidiary Amazon Web Services and Sonae SGPS SA's technology investment arm Sonae IM.

The round also includes funds from historic investors such as Alphabet Inc.'s GV, Accel and Redline Capital Management.

Weaveworks will use the funds to improve its GitOps-powered Kubernetes platform and expand its reach for telecommunication companies and other enterprises.

"As global telcos ramp up to deliver high-speed 5G applications and services, and enterprises build and operate cloud-native applications, the need for a reliable, secure and standards-based operating model is more important than ever," Remi Prunier, investment principal at Orange Ventures, said.
