Alstom SA said Wednesday that it has won a contract for a train-control system in Italy worth 124 million euros ($135.1 million).

The contract from Italian rail group Rete Ferroviaria Italiana is for the design and implementation of the European Rail Transport Management System in four Italian regions, the French train maker said.

Alstom won the tender together with a temporary grouping of companies, it said.

The award is the first of a number of tenders in Italy financed by the country's pandemic recovery funds for the construction of ERTMS on 700 kilometers of railway worth around EUR500 million, Paris-based Alstom said.
