The French nuclear regulator approved Electricite de France SA's request for a temporary modification of the thermal discharge limits of five nuclear power plants, reducing the risk of production limitations in the coming days.

The state-controlled utility on Sunday said the measure concerns the Bugey, Saint Alban, Tricastin, Blayais and Golfech plants.

Last week, it said high water temperatures in the country were putting some of its plants' output at risk, warning this could lead to lower nuclear production. Nuclear reactors draws water from rivers for cooling and then discharge heated water, which is subject to temperature limits to preserve the aquatic ecosystem.
