Immersion Corp. said it filed a complaint against Meta Platforms
Inc., alleging that the Facebook parent company's augmented and
virtual reality systems, including the Meta Quest 2 headset,
infringe on six patents owned by Immersion.
The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the
Western District of Texas, Immersion said.
Immersion, which is focused on haptic technologies, also called
3-D touch, said it is seeking to stop Meta from further alleged
infringement of the patents. Immersion is also seeking a royalty
for alleged infringements, it said.
"It is important for us to protect our business against
infringement of our intellectual property to preserve the
investments that we have made in our technology," Immersion Chief
Executive and General Counsel Francis Jose said.
He said that Meta has adopted Immersion's technology in its
efforts to shift toward the so-called metaverse.
Representatives for Meta didn't immediately reply to a request
for comment.
