Equinor ASA said Monday that the planned restart of the Hammerfest liquefied-natural-gas processing plant has been delayed by a week after a fault was discovered in a compressor.

Hammerfest LNG, on Norway's northern coast, receives and processes natural gas from the Snohvit field in the Barents Sea, with gas transported in a 160 kilometer pipeline to the facility. It has been closed since a fire in September 2020.

The Norwegian energy major had originally expected repair work to take around a year, but then set a restart date of March 31, 2022. That was then pushed back to May 17 due to Covid-19 disruptions and operational restrictions.

Extensive repairs have now been been completed, but a minor fault was discovered in a compressor over the weekend, with a component now being replaced and operations at the plant to resume in a week, it added.

"Hammerfest LNG has been prepared for production, but we are taking the extra time necessary to safely resume operations," said Grete B. Haaland, Equinor's senior vice president for onshore facilities.
