EDP-Energias de Portugal SA said Thursday that its installed capacity at the end of December was higher than the previous year, while electricity generation fell in full-year 2021.

The Portuguese energy company said it had an installed capacity of 24.65 gigawatts at the end of December, compared with 23.68 GW the previous year.

Electricity generated in the year fell to 60.93 terawatt hours--75% of it coming from renewable sources--from 64.32 TWh the previous year. In the fourth quarter, the company generated 17.74 TWh.

EDP said the total electricity distributed in 2021 rose 13% on year in the Iberian peninsula and 6% in Brazil as a result of the acquisition of electricity-distribution company Viesgo in Spain as well as the economic recovery.
