Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. has named Stuart A. Arbuckle its chief operating officer, the company said Wednesday.

Mr. Arbuckle previously served as the Boston-based pharmaceutical company's chief commercial officer. He has worked for Vertex since 2012.

Before joining Vertex, Mr. Arbuckle worked at Amgen Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline Plc.
