Retail sales in Italy increased in June after falling marginally
in May as coronavirus-related restrictions continued to ease and
the vaccination campaign advanced.
The retail-trade index rose 0.7% on month in June following a
0.1% fall in May, according to data from the country's statistics
agency Istat released Wednesday.
June's increase is the highest since February and is broadly in
line with the 0.6% rise expected by economists polled by
FactSet.
Italian retail sales increased 7.7% in June compared with the
same month a year earlier, the data showed.
Italy's economy, the third largest in the eurozone, expanded by
2.7% in the second quarter on the back of a gradual easing of
pandemic restrictions.
