HSBC Asset Management has appointed Taras Pushak as portfolio manager for its emerging markets debt investment team in London.

Mr. Pushak will be responsible for managing the firm's emerging markets debt total return strategies, and generating emerging markets macroeconomic views and themes for implementation across its investment portfolios, HSBC said in a statement. He reports to Bryan Carter, head of global emerging markets debt.

Mr. Pushak joined from APG Asset Management, where he was a senior portfolio manager responsible for selecting and monitoring strategies managed by external managers.

"Taras has deep portfolio management experience across all segments of EMD and brings with him an in-depth knowledge of the European asset owner space, and the competitive EMD manager landscape," Mr. Carter said.

"His talents and experience will amplify the breadth of alpha sources available for our EMD portfolios and complement the investment team's current strengths in issuer and country selection with an ESG emphasis based on our fundamental research and tools," Mr. Carter added.

HSBC Asset Management recently created a new division called HSBC Alternatives to bring together 150 staff and alternative assets representing more than $50 billion.

The unit called HSBC Alternatives will draw from HSBC Alternative Investments--which includes third-party hedge funds and private market funds--as well as teams from its private debt, venture capital and direct real estate businesses.
