Heineken NV said Tuesday that it is currently engaged with South African beverage company Distell Group Holdings Ltd. regarding a potential transaction between the two brewers.

Also on Tuesday but in a separate release, Distell said Heineken approached it regarding a potential acquisition of the majority of its business.

Both companies said there still isn't any certainty that an agreement will be reached.
