CSX Corp. on Wednesday said it agreed to buy Quality Carriers Inc., the largest provider of bulk liquid chemicals truck transportation in North America, from Quality Distribution Inc. for an undisclosed amount.

The Jacksonville, Fla., provider of rail-based freight transportation services said Quality operates a bulk tank trucking fleet with around 2,500 drivers through a network of more than 100 company-owned and affiliate terminals and facilities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

CSX said it expects the deal will create a unique multimodal chemicals transportation solution that will expand the reach of both companies.

Private-equity firm Apax Partners acquired Quality Distribution in 2015 in a deal valued at about $800 million.
