General Mills Inc. said it agreed to restructure operations in an effort to better match resources with its strategic plans.

The maker of Cheerios, Nature Valley granola bars and many other packaged food items on Thursday said it couldn't yet estimate how much the changes may cost, in terms of charges to be incurred.

A spokeswoman for General Mills couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

General Mills, like other food manufacturers, saw stronger demand last year, as the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in consumers eating more food at their homes and restaurants temporarily shutting down dining rooms.

The Minneapolis-based company disclosed it could carry out restructuring efforts in a securities filing. Those changes were approved on May 5, General Mills said.
