German jobless claims rose in February following seven months of consecutive declines.

Jobless claims rose by 9,000 after falling by a revised 37,000 in January, the Federal Employment Agency said Tuesday.

Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had forecast that jobless claims would remain unchanged from the previous month.

The adjusted unemployment rate was at 6.0% in February, unchanged from January. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal forecast February's adjusted jobless rate at 6.0%.

The number of registered job vacancies stood at 583,000 in February, down 107,000 on year, the agency said.
