German automotive company Daimler AG said Tuesday that thousands of its employees in Germany will receive a one-off bonus of up to 1,000 euros ($1,192) to compensate for the economic and personal difficulties brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

The company said more than 160,000 contracted employees will receive the benefit alongside their December paychecks, including all team leaders at Daimler, at subsidiaries Mercedes Benz AG, Daimler Truck AG, Daimler Mobility and at all subsidiaries in Germany. Daimler said the one-off payment would be tax-free and free of social security payments.
