Ecolab. Inc. said it has named President and Chief Operating Officer Christophe Beck as its next chief executive officer, succeeding current CEO Douglas Baker, Jr., who plans to retire.

Mr. Beck, who joined the company in 2007 and has held various senior roles, will also join the company's board of directors. He will assume the new role on Jan. 1.

Prior to joining Ecolab, Mr. Beck was an executive at Nestle SA.

Mr. Baker will remain chairman of the board, the company said.
