Amazon.com Inc. said it has partnered with the primary-care services company Crossover Health to establish health centers near Amazon fulfillment and operations facilities in the U.S. following a push for better working conditions amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Amazon said it expects to establish 20 health centers in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area in Texas, Phoenix, Ariz., Louisville, Ky., Detroit and the San Bernardino-Moreno Valley area in California through the initial pilot program. There are more than 115,000 Amazon associates at those locations, the company said.

The company said it will build similar facilities in other places if the pilot succeeds.

Amazon fired at least three warehouse employees and reprimanded several others who said they were singled out after pushing for better working conditions during the pandemic, The Wall Street Journal reported in April. The company denied that the firings were connected to seeking better treatment and said the individuals were terminated or reprimanded for violating internal policy.
