Avaya Holdings Corp. (NYSE:AVYA), a global leader in solutions
to enhance and simplify communications and collaboration, today
announced it has been awarded with Frost & Sullivan’s 2019
North America Product Leadership Award in the enterprise safety
solutions market for Public Safety Solutions.
Frost & Sullivan honored Avaya and its Public Safety
Solutions at its “Excellence in Best Practices” awards gala held
December 2, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas.
The firm recognized the Avaya SENTRY™ solution by 911secure and
Avaya’s deployment of the RapidSOS NG911 Public Safety Clearing
House in 2019 for empowering public safety answering point (PSAP)
operators with highly accurate location details. The solutions use
site-based device discovery and tracking protocols that provide
information from wired/wireless IP device connectivity,
analog/digital technology record import, or remote off-premise
positioning. When an emergency call is made, SENTRY™, provided by
Avaya, determines the phone’s physical location and immediately
collects additional relevant data in the building. Supplemental
information such as specific floor plans and Hazmat information is
also pulled and collected. Because of Avaya’s ability to update the
record in near-real-time, the solution dynamically associates
numerous data points that further validate the location of the
device.
Along with its ability to identify the caller’s precise
location, the Avaya SENTRY™ solution by 911secure pushes real-time
incident notes to first responders and on-site managers that
include data from virtually any sensor, device, or tabulation
without the need for new hardware. The application is available for
any PBX system (hybrid or cloud-based services) and is tailored to
each unique facility and environmental circumstance.
“We are honored to win this prestigious award from Frost &
Sullivan, and are proud of our SENTRY™ solution for helping
operators and first responders get the vital information they need
in emergency situations,” said Mark Fletcher, Chief Architect
Public Safety Solutions from Avaya. “With the abundance of IoT
devices, we are only beginning to harness the wealth of data they
provide to generate accurate and actionable incident
intelligence.”
In order to connect quickly with these first responders that
continue to operate with out-of-date technology based on
traditional landlines, Avaya also partnered with RapidSOS, a
technology company that provides a link between connected devices
and emergency services. By partnering with RapidSOS, the Avaya
SENTRY™ solution by 911secure is able to give highly accurate
information to first responders through RapidSOS’s comprehensive
database already being used by most public safety agencies
nationwide, providing emergency responders with vital information
such as floor plans, points of entry and multimedia from
buildings.
Avaya’s leadership in communications solutions for public safety
has also been instrumental in the passing of important legislation
in the U.S., known as “Kari’s Law.” Kari’s Law requires multi-line
phone systems like those found in hotels and offices enable direct
dial to 9-1-1, direct routing to a 911 center, and on-site
notification of a 9-1-1 call that includes a detailed “dispatchable
location” to decrease response time. Signed in 2018, the laws go
into effect February of 2020. Kari’s Law is named after Kari Hunt,
who tragically died in her hotel room in 2013 after multiple failed
attempts by her daughter to dial 9-1-1. The law is designed to
ensure that anyone, anywhere can reach emergency services and that
critical location data is provided with that call. Avaya joined
with Hank Hunt, Kari’s father, to work tirelessly in getting this
law enacted.
“We are all pleased to see Avaya receive this award for bringing
together the applications that help solve the problem of Direct
Access,” said Hank Hunt. “Raising awareness was the main goal of
this legislation and that led to the development of some new
capabilities to make it easy and affordable. Seeing the passion and
commitment from Avaya in solving the Direct Access problem has left
us with a calmness in knowing the right thing is being done.”
Frost & Sullivan evaluated and honored the SENTRY™ /
RapidSOS Solution from Avaya not only for its rise in product
demand but for the nurturing of the brand and its unique
competitive positioning. Further details about Frost &
Sullivan’s Research Methodology can be found here.
“Avaya is widely recognized for its commitment to public safety
solutions and its industry leadership in this important segment of
the communications market,” said Brent Iadarola , ICT Vice
President, Frost & Sullivan. “By equipping first responders
with enhanced incident intelligence and situational awareness in
emergency situations, Avaya is truly making a difference in our
communities. Congratulations to Avaya on this important
recognition. "
