American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, announced today that it has again been recognized among the top 100 Best for Vets Employers by Military Times. The selection focused on corporate culture and policies that best leverage the traits and skills embodied by veterans and servicemen and women to enable them to be successful in civilian roles.

“Being recognized as a ‘Best for Vets Employer’ by Military Times is a reflection of the high performance of our military and veteran workforce, and the unique talents and strengths these men and women bring to our customers and communities,” said American Water President and CEO Susan Story. “They’ve focused on providing high quality water, fire protection, and sanitation services to over 14 million American Water customers, including those living and working on our military bases across the country. We value their lifelong commitment to safety, service to others and exceptional performance, and are proud to work alongside them each and every day.”

For ten years the rankings have evaluated company culture, veteran recruiting, veteran policies, and accommodations for members of the National Guard and reserves. The standards are objective, rigorous, and editorially independent. As a result, transitioning service members utilize the list of Best for Vets Employers to aid their transition to civilian life.

American Water is committed to hiring military talent, knowing first-hand that recruiting veterans and military spouses is not only the “right thing to do,” but the right thing for business.

“The companies on the Military Times Best for Vets list earned their rankings through determined efforts to recruit and support service members, veterans and military families,” said George Altman, the Military Times editor in charge of the rankings. “These efforts deserve recognition from the country and should get the attention of veterans looking for a new career.”

The final rankings were the result of a nearly 100-question survey, followed by tests to ensure the accuracy of responses and a careful evaluation of survey data.

American Water will be showcased in print and online at MilitaryTimes.com, as well as ArmyTimes.com, NavyTimes.com, AirForceTimes.com and MarineCorpsTimes.com.
