IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- CalAmp (Nasdaq: CAMP), a technology solutions pioneer leading transformation in a global connected economy, today announced that the company's president and chief executive officer, Michael Burdiek, has been appointed to serve on the Governing Board of Together for Safer Roads (TSR). Burdiek will play a critical role in helping TSR and its affiliates to leverage state-of-the-art telematics, data analytics, and intelligent mobility technology to address challenges in road safety.

"I am grateful and honored to have the opportunity to take on this expanded role with Together for Safer Roads," said Michael Burdiek, president and CEO of CalAmp. "It's my hope that together this coalition will see our collective vision for safer roads and saving lives become a reality."

Burdiek will serve on the board alongside executives from AT&T, ABInBev, AIG and Republic Services.

"Longstanding road safety challenges, such as speeding and drunk driving, and new ones, like distracted driving and autonomous vehicles, make it necessary for corporations concerned with the safety of their employees and communities to work together to find and adopt innovative solutions," said Andres Penate, TSR Board Chair and vice president of Regulatory & Public Affairs at AB InBev.

CalAmp has been a TSR member since 2017 and Burdiek now joins the board as a governing level member for a two-year term during which time he will participate in TSR's budgeting, work plan, communications activities, and new member recruitment.

"Michael's deep experience with intelligent mobility solutions, micro-mobility, IoT and road safety technologies is an excellent complement to our Board of Directors and brings the added expertise to drive private and public sector adoption of leading-edge technology that can save lives," said David Braunstein, president of Together for Safer Roads.

CalAmp was also asked to lead a TSR working group and has appointed Paul Washicko, senior vice president of product management for CalAmp, to co-chair the Safer Companies and Fleets working group with Republic Services.

"CalAmp is at the forefront of vehicle safety technology, and we are honored to have Michael join the TSR board," said Jim Olson, senior vice president of safety for Republic Services. "We also look forward to Paul's expertise in helping us further develop best practices in fleet management and road safety as we continue to evolve TSR's Safer Companies and Fleets working group."
