Detroit Medical Center’s Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital and DMC Harper-Hutzel Hospital both received Leapfrog’s top A rating in The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2018 Safety Score, demonstrating the hospitals’ continued commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care.

Twice each year, the Leapfrog Group assigns A through F scores to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals based on their ability to prevent errors, injuries, accidents and infections. This Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score gives consumers a scorecard rating they can use to make health care decisions for themselves or a loved one.

Huron-Valley and Harper-Hutzel Hospital are part of an elite group of hospitals in Michigan and across the country to earn Leapfrog’s top A score. Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital is 1 of 42 hospitals in the U.S. to receive straight A's since the inception of the Safety Grades (14 consecutive reporting periods).

“We are very proud of the focused dedication our team has demonstrated to consistently earn top ratings from agencies who oversee Huron Valley’s patient safety and quality,” said Karima Bentounsi, Chief Executive Officer, Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital. “Our hospital’s long legacy is based on putting patients first and a sincere commitment to individuals and families of our community. Our hospital team, clinical providers and physicians offer some of the best care around, and this award recognizes their tremendous dedication.”

The DMC remains focused on driving improvements in care delivery and patient satisfaction, as well as continuing its work on developing innovative treatments through its research, impacting people in southeast Michigan and beyond.

“With the fall rating, our Harper-Hutzel teams have demonstrated their consistent focus on patient safety and quality,” said Scott Steiner, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of DMC Harper University and DMC Hutzel Women's hospitals. “We are proud of this A rating as it reveals that our team’s perseverance to delivering safe care is in alignment with best practices.”

Health care quality and safety scoring methods, such as Leapfrog ratings and other publicly available ratings, are used by the DMC to further enhance its care delivery processes in a manner that best meets the needs of the communities served by the DMC health system.

“At the Detroit Medical Center our focus is on safe patient care,” said Dr. Anthony Tedeschi, CEO of Detroit Medical Center. “These A ratings are an additional example of how our hospitals are applying industry best practices in caring for those individuals and families who entrust their care to us.”

Huron-Valley and Harper-Hutzel are core hospitals within the Detroit Medical Center health system.
