30 scholarships up for grabs for grade 12
students across Canada
TORONTO, Oct. 15, 2018 /CNW/ - As part of the celebrations
for next February's Black History Month, the Royal Bank of
Canada today announced a call for
submissions for the 10th Annual RBC Black History Month
Student Essay Competition. This year there are 30 available
scholarships, including three top prizes of $5,000, $2,500 and
$1,500.
The competition is open to all Canadian grade 12 students who
are applying to a Canadian post-secondary school for the 2019/20
academic year. It asks students to learn about and share their
thoughts on how black Canadians have helped to define Canada's diverse heritage and identity through
their achievements and contributions to the broader society.
Celebrating the past, present and future contributions of black
Canadians, the competition, now in its 10th year, is one
of a kind in Canada and has
provided scholarships to more than 130 students since its
inception. It celebrates the rich cultural mosaic that makes this
country so unique, while helping to offset the ever-increasing cost
of post-secondary education.

competition began," said Kris
Depencier, Greater Toronto Regional President, RBC. "Each
year I continue to be so impressed by the talent and quality of the
essays, and this year I expect will be no exception. Good luck to
all the entrants, I look forward to reading your brilliant words
about part of Canada's rich
history and future."
The competition will be judged by a jury of community leaders
from across Canada, and the
winners will be announced on February 8,
2019. Essays must be 750 words or less and must be submitted
by December 7, 2018. Full details can

Winners will be celebrated during Black History Month, when all
Canadians are invited to participate in festivities across the
country.
