HCA Healthcare (NYSE: HCA), a leading healthcare provider with
178 hospitals and approximately 1,800 sites of care in 20 states
and the United Kingdom, today announced a donation of $500,000 to
the American Red Cross to help people affected by Hurricane
Florence.
In South Carolina, HCA Healthcare has five hospital campuses,
including Grand Strand Medical Center, the only Level 1 trauma
center in the eastern part of the state, and 38 other sites of
care.
“As a healthcare provider, caring for people in their time of
need is deeply embedded in HCA Healthcare’s culture,” said Milton
Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer of HCA Healthcare.
“We have a long history of serving communities throughout South
Carolina, and we are pleased to support Hurricane Florence relief
efforts by the Red Cross.”
Over the last several years, HCA Healthcare has provided
financial support for relief efforts after several natural
disasters, including Hurricane Harvey last year.
“Support from partners such as HCA Healthcare, enabled the Red
Cross to quickly mobilize volunteers, equipment and supplies to
provide help and hope to people across the East Coast impacted by
Hurricane Florence,” said Gail McGovern, president and CEO of the
American Red Cross. “We deeply appreciate HCA Healthcare’s generous
donation as we work together to support people in need with
shelter, food, comfort and other emergency support.”
South Carolina is also home to approximately 5,500 HCA
Healthcare colleagues. As part of HCA Healthcare’s ongoing disaster
assistance, The HCA Hope Fund—an employee-run, employee-supported
501(c)(3) charity that provides financial aid and resources to
employees after extended illness, injury, disaster or other special
situations—is providing grants to HCA colleagues affected by the
recent storm. Since its inception, The HCA Hope Fund has provided
more than 30,000 grants totaling $45 million in assistance to HCA
