Shipt and Target Expand Same-Day Delivery Down the California Coast
September 18 2018 - 10:00AM
Shipt, a leading same-day delivery marketplace, and Target
Corporation (NYSE: TGT) today announced delivery of more than
55,000 groceries, essentials, home, electronics, toys and other
products in four central California markets. Same-day delivery will
also include beer, wine, and spirits from participating Target
stores. Shipt will become available from Target in each metro on
the following dates:
- Oct. 2: Salinas and Santa Cruz, California
- Oct. 9: San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria, California
Shipt’s growth to the Central Coast gives nearly 350,000
households across the four metro areas access to products delivered
by Shipt in as little as one hour. Shipt continues to launch
throughout California, and will ultimately offer same-day delivery
to more than 11 million households across the state. To celebrate
the announcement, new Shipt members in California who sign up
before the launch will receive an annual membership for $49
(regularly $99).
“Shipt is giving new California members access to a convenient
service and unbeatable customer experience, offering residents
access to their favorite products and fresh groceries with just a
few clicks,” said Bill Smith, founder and chief executive officer,
Shipt. “Through our app, our members have access to everything they
need, when they need it, right at their fingertips. Looking ahead,
Shipt will continue to expand and bring same-day delivery to a
growing number of households across the country.”
Founded in 2014 in Birmingham, Alabama, Shipt is committed to
simplifying its members’ lives by offering a new, convenient
same-day shopping experience. Shipt’s marketplace gives members the
ability to browse, search and shop the in-store assortment of
products online. Members can note preferences, choose a one-hour
delivery window and pay for their order, all within the app.
Shipt's expert team of shoppers takes care of selecting, bagging
and delivering the items. The annual membership grants access to
free, unlimited delivery on orders of more than $35. Members must
be at least 21 years old to order or accept alcohol deliveries, and
will be required to present identification upon delivery.
“Same-day delivery was at the top of our list when we were
thinking about ways to make shopping at Target even easier,” said
John Mulligan, executive vice president and chief operating
officer, Target. “Shipt’s personalized, customer-focused approach
fits perfectly with our commitment to deliver a convenient,
exceptional experience and we’re excited to begin offering same-day
service to more California residents.”
Leading up to the launch, Shipt will add more than 500 new
