WHAT:Comcast Cares Day –
Comcast NBCUniversal will donate $300,000 to the Santa Rosa City
Schools district (SRCS) for the development of a facility to serve
communities impacted by the North Bay wildfires. Called the
Santa Rosa Integrated Wellness Center, the new facility will
serve the more than 1,000 families and children within Santa Rosa
who lost their homes or suffered in other ways during the
fires.
Santa Rosa Integrated Wellness
CenterVolunteers will be refurbishing and revitalizing
part of the old Lewis Elementary School campus that currently is
vacant, but with the help of Comcast employees, family, friends and
community, it will be converted into a wellness center to aid more
than 1,000 families impacted by the fires.
Projects at this site include:
- Painting the exterior of all
buildings
- Landscaping - weeding all planter
areas and planting flowers and plants
- Painting colorful stencils on the
outside of the portables
- Adding colorful games on the
blacktop
- Creating murals
Santa Rosa High SchoolFor
the first time in many years, Santa Rosa High will be holding
graduation ceremonies at their stadium. With more than 125 students
impacted by the fires, volunteers will be making this graduation a
special one for the entire community by cleaning up the area
surrounding the stadium, weeding all open areas and putting down
fresh wood chips and cleaning the bleachers.
Santa Rosa Tree Planting with Arbor Day
FoundationTo help with environmental recovery efforts in
the North Bay, Comcast is pleased to partner with the Arbor Day
Foundation to plant close to 400 trees in the hard hit area of
Fountaingrove Parkway where more than 90% of the landscape was
damaged by the fires.
All the trees planted will be indigenous to the area, and will
help re-establish the natural habitat lost during the fires, help
with erosion control, and create a scenic treasure that will
benefit not only the residents of the Fountaingrove community, but
provide pleasant scenery for the thousands of commuters who utilize
the Fountaingrove Parkway during their daily commute.
This volunteer effort is part of the 17th “Comcast Cares
Day,” the largest single-day corporate volunteer effort in the
United States that will bring together more than 100,000 Comcast
employees, their families and friends nationwide to help make a
difference in their communities. More than 5,000 Comcast employees
and their families will do volunteer work at 19 schools or
community based organizations in California.
Members of the community are invited to participate, but must
register at: www.comcastinthecommunity.com.
