Blended learning, named a key digital trend to watch, combines classroom and digital learning.

Colorado Empowered Learning’s (CEL) website is helping students and teachers stay informed on blended learning, a teacher-led instructional strategy that combines classroom and digital learning. For students, it provides some control over when, where and at what pace they learn. The method is also expanding equity and access in K-12 education across all school districts.

At the core of CEL’s mission is Colorado’s Blended Learning Roadmap. CEL developed the roadmap to articulate the strategic priorities — on local and statewide levels — that must be addressed to enable blended learning to thrive in Colorado’s educational system.

“Our website allows visitors to stay current on information related to blended learning in Colorado and progress on the roadmap,” said CEL Executive Director, Troy Lange. “The website is helping us reach people from the classroom to the Capitol who need to know about it. We are in the process of scheduling another stakeholder meeting to build an action plan around the importance of the roadmap.”

The website also provides a quick snapshot of the 30 school districts that support the organization’s mission through an interactive map.

“I’m proud that our technology is not only helping CEL keep stakeholders informed, but its ease-of-use allows CEL to concentrate on its mission — supporting school districts with implementing blended learning,” said Colorado Interactive’s President and General Manager, Fred Sargeson. “As Troy emphasized, it’s important for all stakeholders, from the classroom to the Capitol, to stay current on how technology contributes to equality in our state’s educational system.”

Another goal for the new website is to develop an authoritative online presence. CEL is supported through funding by the State of Colorado, as well as by participating schools and districts. Being on Colorado.gov’s platform and branded as an Official State Web Portal reinforces its authority.

CEL turned to Colorado Interactive (CI) and the Statewide Internet Portal Authority (SIPA) to produce its new website. CI provides digital government services to state agencies, local governments and educational entities through a contract with SIPA — the official internet portal connecting the public with Colorado government. The partnership’s mission allows government leaders to focus on delivering on-demand, digital government solutions without requests for proposals or the use of tax appropriations. The CI/SIPA partnership has benefited more than 60 special districts and educational organizations in Colorado.

Eligible government entities in need of free website development and hosting as well as payment processing through the Colorado.gov Web portal should contact SIPA.
